Champions never rest: SRG stars gear up for MLBB's M6 after world triumph

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia may have claimed the world title in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), but for four of their team members, the mission is far from over.

Haqqullah "Sekys" Ahmad Shahrul Zaman, Hazziq "Stormi" Danish, Qayyum Ariffin "YumS" Suhairi and Ilman Zareef "Gojes" Zulkifli will now rejoin their club, Selangor Red Giants (SRG), to prepare for the M6 World Championships.

The M6, which determines the world's best MLBB club, begins on Nov 21 in Kuala Lumpur.

On Friday, Malaysia defeated the Philippines 2-0 in the World eSports Championships (WEC) final in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The team, who also featured JP Niners' Ealtond "Loleal" Rayner and Amir Zakwan "Zakqt" Noor, delivered a dominant performance despite losing to the same opponents in the group stage.

National assistant coach Poon "OzoraVeki" Kok Sing, who also serves as SRG's tactical coach, revealed the immediate focus on M6 preparations.

"We are working by the code that champions never rest. The players will start their M6 training as soon as possible," said Kok Sing.

"I hope SRG can maintain this momentum and achieve the 'Golden Road' by winning M6."

SRG will skip the Wild Card stage, entering the Swiss stage on Nov 28 against Turkiye champions S2G.

The WEC victory marked a historic achievement for Malaysia, which took home US$70,000 (RM312,760) in prize money.

Riyadh has now hosted two landmark triumphs for Malaysian esports — SRG's MLBB Mid Season Cup win in July and the national team's WEC success.

"Winning feels great, especially with a line-up from two different teams and only a short preparation period," said Kok Sing.

"Hearing Negaraku during the medal ceremony made me extra proud as a Malaysian."
