PUCHONG: The Golden Road is Mobile Legends: Bang Bang's biggest prize, and Selangor Red Giants (SRG) hope to be the first team ever to claim it.
If the Malaysian champions win the M6 World Championship in Kuala Lumpur later this month, SRG will make history as the world's first to complete a Golden Road.
The Golden Road is awarded to an MLBB eSports team that win every major event in a calendar year, which includes both league splits, the Mid-Season Cup (MSC), and the M-series world championship.
So far, SRG have clinched both Seasons 13 and 14 of the MLBB Professional League Malaysia and the MSC.
The Selangor-based team will start their world championship campaign against Turkish champions S2G eSports, while Malaysia's other representatives, Team Vamos, will face Saudi Arabia's Twisted Minds.
SRG co-founder Simon Lim is relieved that his team have avoided the tournament favourites from the Philippines and Indonesia.
"My players are confident they can beat S2G. However, we don't have much data on them, which will be a challenge for our coaching staff. But overall, it's a good draw for us," said Simon at the draw ceremony here today.
S2G surprised many by upsetting Fire Flux to clinch the Turkish league title.
The M6 World Championships will commence with the wildcard stage from Nov 21-24 at the IOI Grand Exhibition and Convention Centre in Putrajaya, where eight teams will battle for a single slot in the Swiss Stage.
The Swiss Stage will follow from Nov 28-Dec 5 at the same venue, narrowing down 16 teams to eight for the playoffs.
The semi-finals and Grand Final are set for Dec 14-15 at Bukit Jalil's Axiata Arena.
