KUALA LUMPUR: Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds are forecast to hit eight states, including the whole of Perlis, until 6pm today.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) said in a Facebook post that the weather in Kedah is expected to affect Langkawi, Padang Terap, Sik, Baling, Kulim, and Bandar Baharu.
In Perak, the stormy weather will hit Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang, and Muallim.
"In Kelantan, affected areas are Jeli and Kuala Krai; in Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Raub, Bentong, Temerloh, Kuantan, Pekan, and Rompin) and Selangor (Kuala Selangor and Hulu Selangor).
"In Sarawak, the same weather is forecasted for Sarikei (Meradong), Mukah (Tanjung Manis, Daro, and Matu), Kapit (Belaga), Miri (Telang Usan), and Limbang.
"Meanwhile, in Sabah, it will affect the interior regions (Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, and Beaufort), West Coast (Papar, Putatan, Penampang, and Kota Kinabalu), Sandakan (Telupid and Beluran), and Kudat (Kota Marudu and Kudat)," it said.
METMalaysia said a warning is issued when there are signs indicating thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimetres (mm) per hour, which are imminent or expected to occur for more than an hour.
"The thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for each issuance," it said.
