KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning for heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds in eight states until 4pm today.
It said through a Facebook post that this was the forecast for angkawi, Padang Terap, Kuala Muda, Kulim, and Bandar Baharu in Kedah; Petaling in Selangor ; and Tampin in Negri Sembilan.
It said heavy rain and thunderstorms are also expected to affect Alor Gajah and Jasin in Melaka; Segamat and Kluang in Johor, and Limbang in Sarawak.
"The warnings is issued when signs indicate that thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimeters (mm) per hour, are likely to persist for an hour or more.
"The thunderstorm warnings are short-term warnings valid for up to six hours for each issuance," it said.
The public is advised to always refer to the website www.met.gov.my and METMalaysia's official social media platforms, as well as to download the myCuaca application for latest and accurate information.
