Civil Defence personnel rescue flying lemur in distress

GEORGE TOWN: A flying lemur was successfully rescued after being found stuck on a chair at a condominium in Persiaran Halia 3, Tanjung Tokong, here on Tuesday.

According to Penang Civil Defence Force (APM) public relations and documentation unit officer Lieutenant Mohammad Fakhrullah Ali, the Tanjung Bungah APM team received a call from the public around 9pm, informing them about the discovery of the flying lemur.

"Four members of the Tanjung Bunga APM unit rushed to the location immediately after receiving the call.

"They arrived at the condominium around 9.40pm and the flying lemur was captured five minutes later," he said when contacted.

Fakhrullah said the team had no difficulty in capturing the flying lemur.

"The team members only wore their personal protective equipment (PPE), such as helmets and gloves, for safety purposes," he said.

The rescued flying lemur was subsequently handed over to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan).

He said last year, they also rescued another flying lemur found by the public in a residential area in Tanjung Bunga.
