KUALA LUMPUR: A picture of an e-hailing driver allegedly charging up to RM30 for an air-conditioning "additional charge" has sparked outrage among netizens.
In a photo posted on X by @malaysiaviralll, a crude handmade sign, drawn with marker pens on cardboard, was seen hanging behind the driver's seat.
"Additional charge air-cond (if you want to switch it on).
Air-cond fan speed: 1 - RM20 (6-seater free), 2 - RM25, 3 - RM30."
The notice also stated that "basic air-cond" would be provided for passengers seated in the front passenger seat.
The exorbitant pricing for what many consider a basic necessity angered netizens, who took to the comments section to express their grievances.
User @khairulkanis wrote: "As a former part-time e-hailing driver, I totally get why some drivers feel frustrated. I stopped driving because it simply wasn't worth the time, money, and energy anymore. But let's be clear - overcharging customers isn't the way to handle it."
Another user, @ajummik_nori, commented: "Is he crazy? Does he service the air-cond every month? Blatant capitalism."
Meanwhile, several others called on the e-hailing company to investigate the matter.
The post has since gone viral, garnering nearly 800,000 views on X.
