GEORGETOWN: A Form Two female student was found dead after allegedly falling from the eighth floor of a secondary school building in Jelutong yesterday.
It is understood that school authorities contacted an ambulance after discovering the unconscious victim lying beneath the building.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad confirmed receiving a report about the teenager's death.
"Police were informed by medical officers at Penang Hospital (HPP) about the student's death at 5.57pm. Investigations at the scene and on the victim's body revealed no signs of foul play," he said in a statement late last night.
Abdul Rozak said that the case had been classified as a sudden death.
"The police have also opened a sudden death report to facilitate further investigation. In this regard, the public is urged not to make any speculative statements that could interfere with the investigation, nor to circulate images or videos of the scene, out of respect for the feelings of the victim's family," he said.
