Missing fisherman found dead, croc attack suspected

KINABATANGAN: A man who was reported missing while fishing in a river at a plantation here yesterday was found dead.

He is suspected to have been attacked by a crocodile.

The body of Brono Kamilgs Nahak, 25, was discovered by the rescue team at 10.45am, about one kilometre from where he was believed to have been attacked by the crocodile.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department's operations centre officer Riki Mohan Singh Ramday said the search-and-rescue (SAR) operation began after the department received a call about the incident at 6.28am today.

He said the distance from the Kinabatangan fire and rescue station to the location of the incident was 78km.

"Upon arrival, a search operation was conducted and at 10.45am, the victim's body was found by the SAR team, one kilometre from where he was believed to have been attacked by the crocodile," he said today.

The victim reportedly went to the river around 12.30pm yesterday to retrieve fish from his net.

However, by the evening, he did not return, prompting his worried friend to search for him along the river, only to find a motorcycle, clothing and a torn fishing net.

Riki Mohan added that the victim's body was handed over to the police for further action and the search operation concluded at 12.53pm.
