KALABAKAN: A farm worker is feared dead after being attacked by a crocodile while fishing with a friend in a river near Ladang Palm Rides here yesterday afternoon.
District Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief Jemishin Ujin said they received an emergency call about the incident at 7.24pm.
A team of five personnel was then dispatched to the scene, located 105 kilometres away, to conduct search and rescue (SAR) operations.
He said that, based on initial information, the victim's friend and witness to the incident claimed to have seen the victim being grabbed by the crocodile during their fishing activity at the river.
"The second day of the SAR operation started at 8am today, with other rescue agencies involved.
"The search radius covers a 3.2-kilometre area from the last location where the victim was seen taken by the crocodile.
"As of this evening, the 36-year-old victim has yet to be found. The search was suspended at 7.55pm today and will resume tomorrow," he said in a statement here.
The SAR operation also involves the Merotai and Kalabakan Volunteer Fire Brigades (PBS), the Wildlife Department (JHL), Civil Defence Force (APM), and local residents.
