PUTRAJAYA: A monstrous performance from John Vincent "Innocent" Banal powered Selangor Red Giants (SRG) past Indonesia's RRQ Hoshi in the lower bracket quarter-final of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) M6 World Championships today.
Though RRQ had control of the early and mid-game, SRG launched a huge come-from-behind move to snatch victory at the IOI Grand Exhibition and Convention Centre today.
After RRQ won Game Two to tie the series, Banal produced a record-breaking performance in Game Three, registering 19 kills with zero deaths to help SRG edge ahead 2-1.
On match point, the 20-year-old Filipino gold laner again put up double-digit kills with 13 to seal SRG's spot in the lower bracket semi-final with a 3-1 victory.
His effort in Game Three rewrote the record of the most number of kills in a single game in an M Series match. The previous record of 14 kills was held by RRQ's Schevenko David "Skylar" Tendean, set at the M4 World Championships in Jakarta last year.
"I didn't expect to get a new record as I was just focusing on executing our game plan.
"We were using early-game heroes so we needed to end that game really fast."
SRG will next meet Russia's Team Spirit, who defeated Myanmar's Falcon Esports 3-1, in the lower bracket semi-finals at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil on Saturday.
