Football great Dollah ready to score at FAM elections

KUALA LUMPUR: Football great Datuk Dollah Salleh is ready to contribute to the nation, this time not as a player but as an elected member of the FA of Malaysia (FAM).

The FAM congress-cum-elections will take place on Feb 15.

A list circulating on social media has named Dollah as a candidate for a vice-president post, while another football icon, Datuk Zainal Abidin Hassan, is listed for an executive committee (exco) position.

Both are believed to be aligned with a camp led by current FAM vice-president Datuk Joehari Ayub, who is reportedly vying for the top post.

This comes after Tan Sri Hamidin Amin announced his decision to step down.

"They (Hamidin and deputy president Datuk Yusoff Mahadi) approached Zainal and me last year, asking us to consider running for office.

"I was surprised when the list went viral — I've received it multiple times. But nothing is official yet. We are still waiting for confirmation.

"That said, I'm ready to serve if the nation needs me," Dollah told Timesport today.

Dollah and Zainal, who were once among Asia's most feared strikers, enjoyed illustrious careers with Harimau Malaya and their respective clubs, winning many titles along the way.

Nomination forms for the FAM elections must be submitted by Jan 16. Candidates require four nominations to contest for one of the four vice-president posts and two nominations for exco positions.

It is also understood that another former national footballer, Datuk Ramlan Askolani, is expected to contest for an exco position.
