KUALA LUMPUR: Three former national players are expected to contest for key positions in the FA of Malaysia (FAM) elections on Feb 15.
Former national striker Datuk Dollah Salleh is expected to run for one of the four vice-president positions, while Datuk Zainal Abidin Hassan is likely to contest for an executive committee seat.
Both Dollah and Zainal are believed to be aligned with the camp led by Datuk Joehari Ayub, the current vice-president, who is reportedly planning to contest for the FAM presidency.
Dollah and Zainal, regarded as two of Asia's most feared strikers in the 1980s and 1990s, enjoyed illustrious careers, winning numerous titles with Harimau Malaya and their clubs.
It is understood that their nominations have been finalised, with the necessary forms set to be submitted ahead of the Jan 16 deadline.
Meanwhile, another former national footballer, Datuk Ramlan Askolani, is also expected to vie for an executive committee position.
Unlike Dollah and Zainal, Ramlan, the vice-president of the Kuala Lumpur FA, is aligned with a different camp.
The participation of former national footballers in the FAM elections is seen as a positive step, with their extensive experience expected to bring fresh perspectives and initiatives to further develop Malaysian football.
