KUALA LUMPUR: The quick response (QR) code system at Kuala Lumpur International Airport has been hailed as a "game changer," reducing immigration clearance for travellers to just seconds.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who used the system this morning, was cleared in four seconds compared to the usual 60 seconds.
The manual process, where travellers queue for passport inspection at immigration counters, can take up to 20 minutes.
The QR code is generated through the MyBorderPass application.
"It took only four seconds for the barrier to open.
To me, this is truly a game changer," Saifuddin said at a press conference before departing for official duties in Abu Dhabi.
The government allocated RM19.2 million to install 20 kiosks at KLIA Terminals 1 and 2, including the development of the MyBorderPass app.
Last week, Saifuddin announced the system's trial for Malaysians at 40 special lanes in both terminals to ease congestion, especially during peak hours and festive seasons.
The Immigration Department has informed the Malaysian public that they are required to download the MyBorderPass app and verify their details.
