KOTA KINABALU: An invitation has been extended to the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) to attend the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Supreme Council meeting next Monday, said state PN chief Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee.
"We will be having a meeting on Dec 9 in Kuala Lumpur. We have invited SAPP, but we are not sure whether they will attend," he said when asked about SAPP's membership status in the PN coalition.
SAPP is a component party in both the peninsula-based PN and Sabah's Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition.
The Beluran member of parliament said that SAPP is still a member of the coalition, but urged the party to stop being an "amphibian" political entity.
Apart from Ronald, GRS secretary-general Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun had also said that SAPP must choose a side.
As for the upcoming state polls, Ronald said PN would definitely field candidates but would finalise the list when the Sabah Assembly is dissolved.
It was reported that SAPP had previously urged PN to stay out of the Sabah election, while SAPP itself would contest under the GRS ticket.
"PN will use its own logo to contest. We still have other component parties apart from SAPP.
"As for the candidates and seats, we will decide when the assembly is dissolved. Right now, we are focusing on strengthening our party," said Ronald.
