BANDAR BAHARU: Kampung Besar in Bagan Samak was once again hit by a high tide phenomenon, triggering flash floods that affected around 100 people from 25 households early today.
This is the second incident involving the king tide phenomenon to hit the village, with the first occurrence happening last Thursday.
District Civil Defence Force officer Lieutenant (PA) Abdul Rahim Khairuddin said of the total families affected, only three of them were evacuated from their houses
He added that the tide caused water levels to rise, leading to the nearby Sungai Kerian overflowing at around 5.20 am.
"The flooding was caused by the high tide affecting Sungai Kerian, which runs near the village. Water levels are receding slowly.
"Two pumps from the Drainage and Irrigation Department have been operating efficiently to drain the excess water in Kampung Besar," he said in a statement today.
Khairuddin said the authorities will continue monitoring the situation on the ground.
