LANGKAWI: The Civil Defence Force warns of a high tide phenomenon over the next four days, impacting Pantai Chenang and Pantai Tengah, with waves expected to exceed 3m in height.
Langkawi CDF officer Khairul Afan Md Yain said teams have been assigned to monitor these at-risk locations.
"In light of this, the public is advised to heed the red flag warnings raised by beach lifeguards in Pantai Chenang and Pantai Tengah, which are major tourist hotspots.
"The red flag serves as a guide for the public to steer clear of these areas due to the anticipated high tide, which is expected to last four days starting today," he said in a statement.
Khairul said sea levels will be dangerous, with waves reaching up to 3.17m by 1.30pm today, making any recreational activities unsafe.
"Visitors should exercise caution, remain aware of their surroundings, and immediately inform CDF personnel if they observe any incidents that might lead to accidents," he added.
Meanwhile, the National Hydrographic Centre also forecast a similar phenomenon.
"High tides may cause water overflow in coastal areas and potentially lead to flooding. Coastal residents are urged to be more vigilant in facing this phenomenon.
"Monitor current weather conditions by referring to relevant agencies for safety information concerning coastal areas," said the statement.
