KUALA KRAI: The spread of Millah Abraham teachings is still under control despite the group having about 5,000 followers nationwide.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said followers were detected in several states including Johor and Sarawak.
"The number of Milah Abraham's followers in Malaysia started increasing during the Covid-19's Movement Control Order in 2020.
"The situation in the country, however, is still under control.
"Police, with the help of the state religious departments, will continue monitoring the situation from time to time to prevent the spread of the teachings," he said.
Speaking to a Press conference after launching the police force's 'Kampung Angkat Madani' in Dabong, here today, Razarudin said the group also found to have spread their extremist ideological teachings through social media.
"Police will maintain vigilance over the Millah Abraham group through the syariah laws in the respective states.
"We are now actively collecting evidence that leads to security threats so that more concrete legal actions can be imposed on this deviant teaching (group)," he added.
On Aug 1, 17 people believed to be members of the group were arrested in Johor in a joint operation with the state religious department.
The Millah Abraham teachings were declared heretical in Johor on July 30, 2015, and officially gazetted on April 28, 2016, as deviations from the teachings of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah.
