IPOH: Perak ruler, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah wants deviant teachings, including those linked to GISB Holdings (GISBH), to be rooted out in the state.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said Sultan Nazrin, who granted him an audience on Monday, made this clear during the meeting.
According to Saarani, Sultan Nazrin said many followers of deviant teachings may not even be aware of their actions.
"God willing, we will do our best. Tuanku is concerned (about deviant teachings)," he told reporters at an awards ceremony for Perak athletes who won medals in the recent Sukma and Para Sukma games.
Saarani said the state will try to help followers of deviant teachings to return to the right path.
He added that he has also presented Sultan Nazrin with a report on GISBH activities in the state.
Saarani said Sultan Nazrin will summon the Perak Mufti Department and the Perak Islamic Religious Department on further measures, including convening the Perak Fatwa Council.
Last week, it was reported that the Perak government would set up a special committee to explore the rehabilitation of GISBH followers.
As of Sept 26, some 55 children under the age of 12 have been rescued from GISBH homes in Perak. They are now under the care of the Perak Welfare Department.
