TUMPAT: A man died after his four-wheel-drive plunged into a river at Pangkalan Nangka here today.
Tumpat police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Khairi Shafie said the incident happened at about noon.
He said villagers helped to pull out the 32-year-old victim from the car before informing the police.
"Police received a call about the incident around 1.30pm and immediately deployed a team to the scene.
"The man was rescued by the villagers but pronounced dead later.
"Initial investigations showed that the man was travelling from Teluk Jering to Kampung Cherang when he lost control of his car when passing a bridge.
"This caused the car to hit the barrier and plunged into the river," he added.
He said the body was sent to the Tumpat hospital for a post-mortem examination.
He added the case is being investigated under Section 41 of Road Transport Act 1987.
