GEORGE TOWN: Two men, including an enforcement agency personnel, were detained last night on suspicion of soliciting and accepting a RM10,000 bribe.
The other man is a lorry driver.
Sources said the two men, in their 30s, were nabbed between 10pm and midnight when they went to the state Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office to have their statements recorded.
"Initial investigation revealed the duo had conspired to solicit and accept bribes worth about RM10,000 from a man in return for solving a theft case involving his fiancé," the source said.
This morning, the duo were brought to the magistrate's court here for remand.
Magistrate Mohamad Azlan Basri granted a two-day remand order against the police sergeant and four days against the lorry driver.
Penang MACC director Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah, when contacted, confirmed the arrests.
He said the case is probed under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
