KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a chief operating officer of a highway concessionaire over allegations of bribery exceeding RM300,000.
A source said the alleged bribes were related to the construction of a highway project in the Klang Valley worth about RM6 billion.
The source said the suspect, a man in his 50s, was detained about 8pm yesterday after giving a statement at the MACC headquarters.
The suspect was taken to the Putrajaya magistrate's court this morning.
Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin issued a four-day remand order, effective until July 19.
"Investigations found that the suspect received bribes totalling more than RM300,000 from company owners for a highway project in the Klang Valley worth about RM6 billion," the source said.
MACC Investigation Division senior director Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hashim confirmed the arrest.
He said the investigation was being conducted under the MACC Act 2009.
