SHAH ALAM: A single mother claimed trial at the Sessions Court here today to two counts of using counterfeit money in August and September.
On the first count, Nur Shasha Nabila Zamani, 26, is accused of using 25 fake RM100 notes, five RM50 notes and three RM20 notes, amounting to RM5,160.
The mother of four allegedly committed the act at a self-service laundry at Taman Dato Ahmad Razali, Ampang, at 11.11pm on Sept 4.
The charge under Section 489B of the Penal Code carries a maximum of 20 years jail and a fine upon conviction.
On the second count, she was charged under the same section with using 22 fake RM100 notes at 11.45pm at Taman Kosas, Ampang on Aug 20.
She pleaded not guilty to an alternative charge of cheating a man by giving 22 fake notes of RM100 as genuine, which led him to hand over a Samsung Flip 4 handphone to her at the same time, place and date.
She faces a maximum five years jail term, a fine or both if found guilty under Section 417 of the same code.
Deputy public prosecutor Khairul Aisamuddin Abdul Rahman requested bail of RM15,000 with one surety.
In mitigation, defence lawyer Sarabmeet Singh pleaded for a lower bail, as the accused was unemployed.
"She has four children aged between 1 and 8. The youngest has cancer.
"We ask for a bail of between RM2,000 and RM3,000," he said.
Judge Muhamad Anas Mahadzir granted a bail of RM4,000 with one surety for each charge.
The court set Feb 19 for mention.
