TANAH MERAH: The army seized 17 head of cattle worth about RM85,000 along the Malaysia-Thailand border near here last night (Monday).
However, the Second Infantry Division said in a statement today (Tuesday) that no one was arrested in the 7pm operation.
It added that an army team went to the area after receiving information on smuggling in the area.
"The army officers spotted three men trying to smuggle cattle into the country along the Sungai Golok riverbank.
"But on seeing the officers approaching the place, the three smugglers ran and escaped into the neighbouring country.
"Further checks in the area, the officers found the 17 head of cattle believed to have been smuggled in from Thailand," it stated.
The statement said the case had been referred to the state Customs Department in Bukit Bunga.
The cattle, it said, were handed over to the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis).
The army statement continued by stating that it would continue to carry out operations to curb smuggling along the country's border with Thailand.
"We will not compromise on any cross-border criminal activities and smuggling along the border areas."
