TANAH MERAH: The General Operations Force (GOF) seized 20 head of cattle valued at RM300,000 found in a trailer during an operation here on Tuesday, believed to have been smuggled from Thailand.
Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said a 31-year-old man was arrested in the operation.
He said a GOF team from the Seventh Battalion was conducting Op Taring Wawasan when they spotted the trailer at 3pm.
"The trailer was passing Jalan Panglima Bayu when the GOF members stopped it.
"Upon checking, the officers found 20 head of cattle inside the trailer. The animals were believed to have been smuggled from Thailand.
"They then detained the driver," he said in a statement.
He added initial investigation showed that a syndicate hired the suspect to send the animals to the buyers.
He said the man is a local and the cattle has been handed over to the Veterinary Department for futther action.
He added the case is being investigated under Section 36(1) of thr Animal Act 1953.
