KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia opened mixed on Wednesday trailing Wall Street's performance as investors turned cautious ahead of big tech corporate earnings announcements.
The US Federal Reserve is also due to announce its interest rate decision tonight.
At 9.20am, FTSE Bursa Malaysia (FBM) KLCI was up 0.2 per cent to 3.29 points to 1,615.23 versus Tuesday's close of 1,611.94.
The key index opened 1.39 points higher at 1,611.94.
The broader market was negative was losers lading gainers 383 to 188 while 343 counters were unchanged.
On the index board, FBM100 lost 0.04 per cent to 12,055.70, FBM Emas dipped 0.02 per cent to 13,165.79 and FBM Ace was down 0.14 per cent to 5,660.01. Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice president Thong Pak Leng said although trading is expected to remain lacklustre ahead of the Federal Reserve meeting later today, the firm reckon some bargain hunting activities may emerge to lend support for the local bourse.
"Thus, we expect the index to trend between the 1,610-1,620 range today. Meanwhile, it is worthwhile to note that the ringgit has strengthened to RM4.62 against the greenback," he said.
