Bursa Malaysia opens on a mixed note this morning, mirroring Wall Street's performance

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia opened mixed on Friday, reflecting Wall Street's mixed performance, despite Bank Negara Malaysia's (BNM) decision to keep the overnight policy rate (OPR) unchanged at 3.00 per cent.

At 9:17 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) increased by 0.03 per cent, adding 0.56 points to reach 1,665.38, up from Thursday's close of 1,664.82.

Nevertheless, the broader market showed a slight downturn, with losers outnumbering gainers 326 to 201 and 339 counters remaining unchanged.

Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice president Thong Pak Leng said given Wall Street's mixed performance, they expect the market sentiment to remain subdued and anticipate the index to fluctuate between 1,660 and 1,670 today.

"While we believe fundamentals of the local bourse remain intact, externalities still play a pivotal role in dictating the market's direction," he said.
