Bursa Malaysia opens lower as investors turn cautious

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia opened in the red despite Wall Street's positive momentum due to the subdued sentiment in Asean.

At 9.10am, FTSE Bursa Malaysia (FBM) KLCI dropped 0.23 per cent or 3.80 points to 1,645.11 versus Monday's close of 1,648.91.

It opened marginally lower at 1,647.42.

The broader market saw decliners led gainers 211 to 188 while 311 counters were unchanged.

FBM 100 and FBM Emas were both in red, dropping 0.55 per cent and 0.52 per cent to 12,021.71 and 12,321.91 respectively.

FBM Ace rose 0.37 per cent to 5,177.28.

Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice president Thong Pak Leng said sentiment remained subdued as profit taking activities continued within the Asean region.

"We noticed foreign funds as net sellers but are hopeful that the retail segment has begun to accumulate on stocks of late. "For today, we expect the index to hover within the 1,645-1655 range in the absence of strong catalysts for now," he said.
