KUALA LUMPUR: The FA of Malaysia (FAM) will decide the fate of Johor Darul Ta'zim's (JDT) Arif Aiman Hanapi and Perak's Tommy Mawat Bada soon following their fiery on-field clash during last week's Super League match at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri.
The heated exchange erupted in the second half, leading to a physical confrontation between the two players.
A widely circulated video on social media shows Arif appearing to throw a punch at Tommy.
Referee Razlan Joffri Ali issued yellow cards to both players but faced backlash for not showing a red card to Arif.
Razlan has since been suspended by FAM, along with the VAR referee, who is also under investigation for an alleged incorrect decision concerning Perak's penalty claims during the match.
FAM secretary general Datuk Noor Azman Rahman confirmed that both clubs have provided explanations, and the disciplinary committee will determine the appropriate action.
"We have issued the charges, and the decision will be communicated soon. The cases are now with the disciplinary committee," said Azman.
The incident has sparked widespread debate about the quality of officiating, with fans lambasting Razlan's decisions.
Even the Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, who owns JDT, weighed in, stating that both players should have been sent off.
FAM deputy president Datuk S. Sivasundaram assured fans that the association is taking the matter seriously.
"Both players received yellow cards immediately after the incident, but additional sanctions and further action may still be taken if necessary," said Sivasundaram.
