KUALA LUMPUR: The FA of Malaysia (FAM) will launch a formal investigation into the altercation between Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) star Arif Aiman Hanapi and Perak's Tommy Mawat Bada during yesterday's Super League match at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium.
The two players exchanged blows in the 84th minute, leading to referee Razlan Joffri Ali issuing yellow cards to both men.
FAM Referee Committee chairman Datuk S. Sivasundaram said today: "This is a serious incident. While the referee's immediate response was to issue yellow cards, further sanctions could follow after a thorough review.
"FAM will be reviewing video footage of the altercation and is awaiting detailed reports from both the match commissioner and referee assessor before making any decisions.
"The FAM Referee Performance Evaluation Committee is also expected to convene soon to discuss the incident and determine if further penalties are warranted.
"Despite the yellow cards, additional disciplinary measures can still be taken if necessary," said Sivansundaram.
Though JDT won 5-0, the fight between Arif and Tommy overshadowed the result.
Both Arif and Tommy face suspensions or fines if FAM mete out further punishments.
