Singaporean among seven killed in Ayer Keroh fatal crash

ALOR GAJAH: A Singaporean is among the final two victims identified in a deadly crash on the North-South Expressway near the Ayer Keroh Rest and Service Area (R&R).

The crash, which involved a tour bus, two trailers, and a Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) in the southern state of Melaka, claimed seven lives last night.

According to District Police Chief Superintendent Ashari Abu Samah, the remaining two victims have been identified as Lamrah Asid Ali, 66, a Singaporean, and Fauziah Jaafar, 69.

Lamrah was aboard the tour bus, while Fauziah was travelling in the MPV.

Ashari explained that the tour bus collided with a tyre that had detached from one of the trailers and was lying in the middle of the expressway.

The impact caused the bus driver to lose control, sending the vehicle skidding into the opposite lane, where it collided with a Perodua Bezza.

This caused the car to veer into the left lane and strike a road barrier.

The bus then crashed into another trailer and an MPV carrying a family of eight.

The other five identified victims are 56-year-old bus driver Noorisnien Khamid from Johor, MPV driver Khairul Ikhwan Mazupi, his 32-year-old wife Fadzlenna Ramli, their two-year-old son Muhammad Umar, and Fadzlenna's father, 56-year-old Ramli Ab Wahab.
