KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia reached the Under-19 Asean Championship semi-final by topping Group C following a 1-1 draw with Thailand at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium in Surabaya on Thursday.
Thailand took the lead through Caelan Ryan in the fourth minute before G. Pavithran equalised from the penalty spot for Malaysia in the 48th minute.
Malaysia and Thailand both finished with seven points, but the former topped the group on goal difference.
Singapore finished third with three points, while Brunei failed to earn a point.
In the semi-finals on Saturday, Malaysia will face hosts Indonesia, who topped Group B with maximum points from three matches.
Group B champions Australia will play Thailand in the other semi-final.
Malaysia opened their campaign by thrashing Brunei 11-0 on July 19 before beating Singapore 5-0 on Tuesday.
