KUALA LUMPUR: A cruel twist of fate has ended Lee Zii Jia's promising campaign at the World Tour Finals (WTF), as an ankle injury forced the world No. 8 to retire from his final group match.
In his final match against China's Li Shi Feng, Zii Jia claimed a hard-fought opening game 22-20 and was cruising at 15-11 in the second when disaster struck.
The injury had initially surfaced when Zii Jia was leading 13-5.
"Zii Jia's participation at the WTF has unfortunately ended due to a right ankle injury," posted Team LZJ on its X account.
"He is getting the required medical attention."
The walkover resulted in the deletion of his earlier victories against Taiwan's Chou Tien Chen and Denmark's Anders Antonsen.
Zii Jia was in devastating form until the injury, winning all his matches without dropping a game.
