[UPDATED] Teo: No effect on DAP-BN relationship from royal addendum issue

KUALA LUMPUR: The relationship between DAP and Barisan Nasional remains unaffected by the ongoing issue surrounding the royal addendum document concerning house arrest for former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching, who is also Johor DAP chairman, said as of now, there were no differences between the two parties over the matter.

"I have not received the document (addendum), and it is beyond my knowledge, it's above my pay grade," she said when met by reporters at the International Regulatory Conference 2025 here today.

Earlier, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, in his weekly post-cabinet meeting press briefing, said the government has never concealed any document related to a royal addendum.

He said that, as the communications minister, he had never seen or received any royal addendum document.

On Jan 6, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah disclosed a letter from the Pahang Sultanate Council confirming the existence of a royal addendum order permitting Najib to serve the remainder of his jail term under house arrest.

The letter, dated Jan 4, was addressed to Najib's eldest son, Datuk Mohamad Nizar, by the Comptroller of the Royal Household of the Sultan of Pahang, Datuk Ahmad Khirrizal Ab Rahman.

Shafee presented the document during Najib's application to the Court of Appeal to introduce new evidence in his appeal seeking a judicial review to compel the government to disclose the purported royal addendum order.

Najib had been sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined RM210 million after his conviction in the SRC International case.

However, following a petition for a royal pardon, his sentence was reduced to six years, and the fine was lowered to RM50 million.
