Zahid: Muhyiddin did not have the numbers

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today refuted the legitimacy of the 115 statutory declarations allegedly signed by members of parliament who supported Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister after the last general election.

Zahid said 10 of the MPs who signed the SDs supporting the Perikatan Nasional chairman also signed SDs supporting Barisan Nasional.

"As such, he has only the backing of 105 SDs which is not enough to form the government (after the 15th General Election)," he told reporters after visiting Laman Media at the Umno General Assembly here today.

Present were Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and Melaka Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

Zahid, who is also BN chairman, said all candidates from the coalition who contested for parliamentary seats in GE15 had signed three documents.

He said one of the documents gave the BN chairman full power to form the next federal administration, help to form a unity government or enter any actions towards the formation of the next federal administration.

The second document, said Zahid, stated that all the seats won in the election belonged to the party and not the candidate.

As for the document, he said, it stated that the candidate has to pay a RM100 million penalty if they decided to quit Umno or endorse their support to the opposing parties.

"All these documents were signed before the commissioner of oath in the presence of three lawyers.

"And there are video recordings when they signed the documents," he said.

Zahid went on and asked Muhyiddin: "How can you deny the actual situation?

"He definitely does not have the numbers."

It was reported that Muhyiddin yesterday furnished related documents to the police, in connection with an investigation into his recent ceramah during the Nenggiri state seat by-election in Kelantan.

The documents included a total of 114 statutory declarations from members of the Dewan Rakyat who trusted him to be appointed as the prime minister.
