GUA MUSANG: Barisan Nasional described its victory in the Nenggiri by-election as extraordinary and a result of the efforts of the party's election machinery and the unity government.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said today's results was also due to the increase in confidence gained among the young voters.
He added BN had been defeated in the Nenggiri state seat and even faced humiliated by its rivals but in the end, they gained victory.
"From the beginning, we have been insulted by the opponents in their ceramah but I am grateful to all the machinery that managed to tackle this in their campaigning.
"Since the campaign period began, we have reminded our members and supporters as well as the leaders not to answer to the slander.
"I have told them to carry out a healthy and moral campaign," he told a Press conference at Dewan Perdana vote-tallying centre here tonight.
Asyraf said Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has also given a high commitment throughout the by-election campaign.
"The president has visited Nenggiri for more than seven times and he always reminded us to assist the people of Nenggiri.
"He wants to show that BN keeps its promises," he added.
