KUALA LUMPUR: A woman nearly fell prey to a towing scam when her car was almost taken away by repossessors using fake number plates at the Tapah Northbound R&R area.
In a TikTok video which has since gone viral, user @iamnurkhadijahh, said the incident happened while she was on a road trip with her cousin and a friend.
She said they stopped at a petrol station while her cousin went to the petrol station's shop.
Shortly after, they were approached by two men claiming to be repossessors who wanted to tow her car away due to loan arrears.
"My friend panicked and immediately called my cousin who came out and confronted the men.
"My cousin asked them for a formal letter (authorising the repossession of the car)," she said.
The men then claimed they needed to check on the letter with their boss.
Her cousin also checked online and informed the men there were no outstanding payments for the car.
The TikTok user said they later checked with the authorities and discovered that the men were using a fake number plate.
Khadijah advised the public to be aware of such scams.
