KUALA LUMPUR: Two elephants being transported on a Perhilitan truck to a carnival show in Kuantan, Pahang, drew the attention of motorists when one of them attempted to rip off palm fruits and leaves from a tree with its trunk.
The incident, which happened over the weekend, was caught on video and shows the truck stopping at a traffic light along one of the city roads.
One elephant is seen yanking down on the palm leaves, causing the tree to sway sharply.
In the 55-second clip filmed and uploaded on TikTok by user Hairul Vcool, the elephant eventually stops.
"Look! There's an upset elephant. It's pulling down on the leaves. The tree's going to fall," Hairul can be heard saying as he walked towards the truck.
"But the caretaker scolded it. It has stopped. If not for this, the tree would have been uprooted," he added.
A crowd of bystanders seen in the video had gathered across the road, also trying to record it on camera.
Towards the end of the video, Hairul says: "Even elephants listen to instructions, but humans do not."
The video, captioned "Gajah Naik Minyak di Kuantan," has been viewed thousands of times and liked and commented on by more than 13,000 other TikTokers since it was posted two days ago.
Among the comments were admiration towards the pair, and there were also comments such as one from Zuis, who said the elephant was not on a rampage but instead wanted to taste the food in Kuantan.
Another user, Nazar_A.R, said maybe the elephant was just feeling very hungry.
