2 missing Muar fishermen found safe in Indonesian waters

MUAR: Two fishermen who went missing after venturing out to sea were found safely in Indonesian waters near Bengkalis yesterday evening.

Batu Pahat Maritime Zone director Commander Mohammad Zaini Zainal said, following a missing persons alert from police, a Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) vessel was despatched to the area where the fishermen were supposed to have been to conduct a search and rescue operation.

"We received the alert from police at 11am, and managed to locate the missing fishermen by 6pm. We later alerted the family members that they were found safely," he said in a statement.

One of the missing fishermen, 46-year-old Zulkefli Mad, told MMEA that their boat experienced engine failure and drifted across the maritime border with Indonesia.
