KAJANG: The remains of a family of five who died in a five-vehicle accident at Km204 of the North-South Expressway near Ayer Keroh last night were laid to rest.
The burial took place at the Bandar Baru Bangi Islamic cemetery, Sungai Tangkas, and was completed at 7.45pm. Despite light rain, around 500 family members, close friends, acquaintances, and colleagues attended the burial.
Earlier, the remains of Fadzlenna Ramli, 32, and her two-year-old son, Muhammad Umar Khairul Ikhwan, were placed in a single grave. The bodies of her husband, Khairul Ikhwan Mazupi, 32, and her parents, Ramli Ab Wahab, 66, and Fauziah Jaafar, 69, were buried in three separate graves.
All the bodies were first prayed over at Surau Al-Ikhlas, Section 4 Tambahan, Bandar Baru Bangi, after being transported from Melaka Hospital at 5.45pm. The funeral prayers were led by Imam Muda Surau Al-Ikhlas, Mohd Nazmi Mohd Yusof, and attended by around 500 congregants.
Meanwhile, the father of the late Khairul Ikhwan, Datuk Mazupi Abdul Rahman, who was met after the burial, said the family had left the investigation of the accident that claimed the lives of his son, daughter-in-law, grandchild, and two relatives to the police.
"I believe the police have already gathered the evidence. God willing, the prosecutor will take action against those responsible for my son's death," he said.
Mazupi, 64, a former senior officer with the police, expressed his gratitude to everyone who attended the funeral prayers and helped ensure the safe burial of his five family members.
"After this, I need to rush to Melaka to manage the surgery of my two grandchildren, who are currently being treated at Melaka Hospital. They need surgery because they both suffered thigh fractures," he added.
Yesterday, it was reported that the accident involved a tourist bus carrying 27 passengers, two lorries, a car, and an SUV. Seven people, including a family of five, were killed, and 33 others were injured.
An initial investigation revealed that the tourist bus collided with a detached tyre from one of the lorries in the middle lane. This caused the bus to lose control and swerve into oncoming traffic, colliding with three vehicles.
The victims who died included the bus driver, four passengers from the SUV, and the driver and a passenger from the bus.
