NFA on HRD Corp's case is surprising

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) decision to classify the HRD Corp case as No Further Action (NFA) is surprising, said Public Accounts Committee (PAC) member Sim Tze Tzin yesterday.

Sim in his briefing to the Dewan Rakyat said this as the Auditor-General's Report indicated elements of criminal activity or abuse of power within HRD Corp.

"The committee was informed by the MACC during the follow-up action proceedings that the HRD Corp case was classified as NFA.

"It is puzzling as the Auditor-General's Report report had indicated elements of criminal activity or abuse of power within HRD Corp.

"The PAC itself, through 10 proceedings held from October last year to March this year, found evidence of abuse of power within HRD Corp," he said.

PAC conducted the follow-up proceedings from Oct 23 to Nov 20, following its report released in July.

PAC in its report released yesterday said MACC concluded that there have been no violations of the MACC Act regarding the management of the HRD Corp.

The matter was confirmed by MACC officer, Mohd Fuad Sedet, during the proceedings with the graft buster.

"We opened an investigation paper and from there, (we found) there were no violations made against the MACC Act.

"The investigation paper was subsequently referred to the Inspection and Governance Division (of MACC)," he was quoted as saying in the report.
