Five trapped in car amid rising floodwaters

NILAI: Continuous heavy rain caused a family of five to become trapped in their car amid rising floodwaters near Jalan Taman Semarak 2 earlier today.

The incident, which occurred around 5pm, ended safely as all five victims were rescued by members of the public before emergency services arrived.

Negri Sembilan Fire and Rescue Department operations centre said it received an emergency call about the incident at 5.19pm.

"Nilai fire station personnel were dispatched to the scene and according to the operations commander's report, a Proton Saga was trapped in the floodwaters.

"There were five victims, comprising two men, two women and a young girl, who were rescued by members of the public before assistance arrived at the scene," said a Fire and Rescue Department spokesman when contacted.

The rain also caused flooding as high as 0.5 metres at Jalan Besar Nilai in Pekan Lama Nilai, where four family members, including a disabled child, were rescued from their home.

"The four victims — a man, two women and a young girl with disabilities — were successfully rescued."

Meanwhile, Nilai state assemblyman J Arul Kumar said that other areas around Pekan Nilai were also inundated, with floodwaters rising to approximately 0.5 metres.
