Floods: Some 120,000 people evacuated

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood victims in the country continues to rise, reaching 119,701 people in nine states this morning, compared to 102,000 reported last night.

According to the Info Bencana portal of the Social Welfare Department (JKM), 119,701 people from 36,032 families are seeking shelter at 697 temporary relief centres (PPS) as of 7am.

The states affected by floods are Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Perlis, Perak, Negri Sembilan, Selangor, Melaka, and Johor.

Of this total, Kelantan recorded the highest number of victims, with 80,241 people from 24,817 families sheltered in 279 PPS across ten districts.

In Terengganu, the disaster affected eight districts, with 322 PPS opened to provide shelter for 31,181 victims from 8,737 families.

Negri Sembilan activated 24 PPS in four districts to accommodate 2,257 victims from 634 families.

In Kedah, 4,477 victims from 1,411 families in six districts were relocated to 50 PPS activated in the state.

In Perlis, 488 victims from 145 families are taking shelter at four PPS opened in three flood-affected districts.

Meanwhile, in Melaka, six PPS have been activated to shelter 228 victims from 61 families in three affected districts.

In Johor, 336 flood victims from 101 families are currently housed in nine PPS in two districts.

Selangor recorded 473 victims from 119 families in two PPS within one district in the state.

In Perak, 20 victims from seven families in one district were relocated to one PPS.
