KUALA LUMPUR: The BA of Malaysia (BAM) has confirmed reaching out to experienced Indonesian coach Herry Iman Pierngadi regarding the national men's doubles coaching vacancy.
BAM secretary-general Datuk Kenny Goh revealed that Herry, popularly known as Herry IP, is among several candidates being considered for the position left vacant by Tan Bin Shen.
"Yes, we have contacted Herry, but no decision has been made yet.
"We are still in the process of interviewing several other candidates, so it will take some time before we make a decision," said Kenny.
Herry, 62, had earlier confirmed being approached by BAM and expressed his willingness to consider the role if the offer aligns with his expectations.
Tan Bin Shen, who tendered his resignation, will depart on Jan 13 to join the Hong Kong Badminton Association.
In addition to Herry, BAM is also considering Danish coach Mathias Boe and Indonesian Flandy Limpele as potential candidates.
Herry is a celebrated figure in badminton, having coached several Indonesian pairs to Olympic and world titles.
His notable proteges include Tony Gunawan-Candra Wijaya and Hendra Setiawan-Markis Kido.
He also guided Hendra-Mohammad Ahsan to multiple world titles and an All England crown.
Another standout pair mentored by Herry is Marcus Fernaldi Gideon-Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, the former world No. 1 and All England champions.
Boe, a former world number one men's doubles player alongside Carsten Mogensen, played a key role in the success of India's Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty, who claimed gold medals at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games and the Hangzhou Asian Games.
Boe also contributed to India's historic Thomas Cup victory in 2022.
Meanwhile, Flandy, who was with BAM from 2020 to 2022, helped Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik win a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
