7-year-old killed in Bukit Jalil collision; driver arrested

KUALA LUMPUR: A seven-year-old child was killed, while two others were injured when a car collided with a motorcycle on the Bukit Jalil highway last Friday.

City police Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department head, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, said in a statement that the incident occurred around 9.50pm.

"The incident involved a car colliding with a motorcycle. During the accident, the motorcycle rider, passenger, and their child fell onto the road.

"All three victims were taken to the hospital by members of the public; however, the seven-year-old child succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment," he said.

Earlier, a 30-second dashboard camera footage of the incident was circulated on social media, showing the car hitting the motorcycle and leaving the scene.

Zamzuri added that the police detained the 31-year-old driver for further investigation after he presented himself to the authorities.

"The investigation papers will soon be referred to the deputy public prosecutor's office for charging directions under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death due to reckless or dangerous driving," he said.
