PUTRAJAYA: The Housing and Local Government Ministry has emerged victorious after clinching the prestigious National Development Award 2024 during a ceremony held at the Movenpick Convention Centre, KLIA Sepang, on Nov 12.
The award, presented by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, recognises the ministry's excellence in implementing the Industrialised Building System (IBS), project management, and outcome evaluations.
Housing and Local Government Minister, Nga Kor Ming, said that it was the first ministry to receive the accolade, which was introduced last year.
"This award underscores KPKT's commitment to delivering impactful development projects that align with the government's aspirations for inclusivity, resilience, and sustainability," he said at a press conference today (Nov 15).
The ministry also secured three other awards: Best IBS Management (for projects above RM1 billion), High-Performance Outcome Assessment, and Consistent Outcome Achievements.
"The Best IBS Management category recognised the ministry's exemplary adherence to IBS standards, achieving an impressive IBS score of 94.98 for its Transit Housing Project for Civil Servants in Pengerang, Johor. The project incorporated innovative on-site casting yard techniques and Building Information Modelling (BIM) to optimise construction efficiency and costs.
"The High-Performance Outcome Assessment highlighted the ministry's outstanding evaluation of completed projects, achieving a score of 93.8 per cent across five major initiatives, including the People's Housing Programme in Johor and the rebuilding of a food court in Ampang.
"For the second consecutive year, KPKT maintained high performance of over 90 per cent in outcome assessments. This showcases its unwavering dedication to delivering results that benefit the people, allowing us to win first place in the Consistent Outcome Achievements category."
Nga said the success was the result of the hard work of all departments and divisions under the ministry. He added that it reflected the ministry's commitment to enhancing the quality of life for Malaysians.
"The collaborative spirit at KPKT aligns with the principles of 'Stronger Together' and 'Unity in Diversity,' ensuring that every project we undertake leaves a lasting positive impact," he said.
As a gesture of appreciation, Nga said he would donate one month's salary to KPKT's staff welfare fund.
He reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to timely project implementation, emphasising its alignment with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's Malaysia Madani vision of a prosperous and progressive nation.
"Together, we will continue striving for excellence, setting new benchmarks in governance and public service delivery."
