KUALA LUMPUR The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) has approved a total of 3,951,404 loans with a cumulative amount disbursed of RM71.3 billion as of December.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said of this amount, 2,716,110 loans are due for repayment, with a total amount due of RM32.29 billion.
"PTPTN education loans are open to all Malaysian citizens who have received offers to enter public universities (IPTA), private universities (IPTS), or polytechnics, meeting the entry requirements set by the ministry. There is no specific quota or allocation set; however, loans are subject to other stipulated conditions.
"However, the approval of loans depends on the applications received and other conditions. So far, 2,842,682 loans, or 71.9 per cent, have been approved for Bumiputera, while 1,108,722 loans, or 28.1 per cent, have been approved for non-Bumiputera," he said in a written parliamentary reply.
He was responding to a question from Pang Hok Liong (PH-Labis) who had asked about PTPTN's total outstanding debt as of 2023 and the total number of borrowers from the Malay, Chinese, and Indian communities.
