KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has told senior police officers to closely monitor their subordinates to prevent misconduct.
"Supervisors need to watch for personnel with lavish lifestyles beyond their means.
"Stern action must follow if there's involvement in graft, drug abuse, or other offences," he said during the police force's monthly assembly.
Razarudin said that shortcomings shouldn't be overlooked, but treated as lessons to avoid repetition.
"Existing directives and policies must be strictly observed and enforced. Our personnel need constant reminders," he added.
Noting a worsening trend of criminal and disciplinary misconduct among officers, he asked leaders to maintain continuous supervision.
"Appropriate action must be taken against any officer violating rules and discipline," he said, adding that the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) would step up efforts to detect misconduct.
"We won't compromise on issues that damage the force's reputation," he said.
