Cops to record Teresa's statement on halal issue tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: Seputeh member of parliament, Teresa Kok will be questioned by police tomorrow (Sept 10) over her statements regarding the halal certification.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said police from the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department's D5 unit will be recording her statement.

"I was informed that she will be having her statement recorded at the D5 office around 10am on Tuesday.

"We will also be calling several other witnesses including some from Malaysia Islamic Development Department (Jakim). This will be decided later on," he said when contacted on Monday.

It was reported that police have opened an investigation paper against Kok over her statement on the halal certification issue.

The investigation against the Seputeh member of parliament had been initiated following five reports that were lodged against her.

Kok, who is DAP vice-chairman, had opposed a proposal by the Malaysia Islamic Development Department (Jakim), which would require all food establishments that do not serve pork or alcohol to obtain halal certification.
