KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has advised his officers to monitor their subordinates closely.
This was to ensure that police personnel were not living beyond their means.
"Supervisors need to monitor personnel who were found to be living luxurious lifestyles beyond their means.
"Stern action must be taken if any involvement in graft, drug abuse or other offences are found," he said during the force's monthly assembly today.
He said shortcomings should not be taken for granted, but should be taken as a lesson so that they were not repeated.
"Existing directives and policies which are in force should be observed, implemented effectively. Our personnel must be always reminded of this aspect," he said.
Razarudin said the trend of police officers involved in crime, drugs and disciplinary misconduct was getting worse.
"Leadership at all levels must ensure that aspects of supervision involving officers are implemented and monitored constantly.
"Appropriate action should be taken against any police officer who is found to have violated the rules and discipline that have been set," he said, adding that the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) would also be more proactive in taking action to detect misconduct by police officers.
He said they would not compromise with anyone who was involved in issues of misconduct that gave a bad image to the force.
