KUALA LUMPUR: A passenger on the Electric Train Service (ETS) bound for Ipoh deliberately pulled the emergency brake while the train was in motion, resulting in a two-hour delay.
Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) said that the incident, which occurred yesterday, was captured on closed-circuit television.
The train departed from KL Sentral station at 9.40pm and was scheduled to arrive in Ipoh at 12.16am. However, due to the incident, it reached Ipoh at 2am.
KTMB Group CEO Datuk Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin said that the company was preparing a comprehensive report on the incident to submit to the Land Public Transport Agency for further action.
"We urge all KTMB passengers not to engage in any actions that could disrupt train services," he said.
He said passengers found violating regulations would face strict penalties under Section 122 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 for the improper use of emergency signalling devices.
The law states that anyone who misuses these devices to stop a train in non-emergency situations may face a fine of up to RM1,000, imprisonment for up to three months, or both.
